Spring Forward!

During Daylight Saving Time, clocks are turned forward one hour, effectively moving an hour of daylight from the morning to the evening. Visit webexhibits.org for the story of DST.

Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, Rethink!

If you did not get a "Green" Lenten Calendar, they are available in the tract racks, or you can view and print one here.  Each Sunday has been designated as a recycling day.  You can get a head start on your spring cleaning and bring the following items to Calvary to be recycled:

February 28:   toys
March 7:   cell phones
March 14:   newspapers and catalogs
March 21:   small working electronics or computers
March 28:   clothes

There will be bins in the Parish Hall to collect the items.  You may put the newspapers and catalogs in the yellow and green containers in the parking lot.

Green Calvary tote bags are available for purchase in the Calvary Bookstore. These bags will be great to bring in your recyclable items! The cost is $5.00 and proceeds from the sale of the bags will benefit the relief effort in Haiti.

Contributions for Haiti Desperately Needed

L’Eglise Episcopale d’Haiti is the largest missionary diocese of The Episcopal Church, with more than 80 congregations. I have visited Haiti several times, most recently in March of 2008, to preach on the Feast of James Theodore Holly, founder and first bishop of the church there, who, like Sam Shoemaker, has been recently added to the church’s calendar.

We can only begin to imagine how the devastation of the earthquake will impact life in a place which is the poorest nation in the hemisphere. I am asking that you prayerfully consider making a special contribution to Calvary which we will forward to the Haiti Relief Fund which has been established by Episcopal Relief and Development. Checks should be sent to Arleen Walter at Calvary and marked “Haiti Relief.”   Merci beaucoup.             –H.T.L.

Building Relationships of Understanding and Respect

Young men and women in East Africa face significant obstacles to their education and future well-being. AIDS, the lack of economic opportunity, the high cost of secondary education, and the sub-standard facilities of most secondary schools combine to prevent many young Africans from rising above a subsistence level of living.

Calvary's Lawsuit

In October 2003, following a Special Convention of the Diocese of Pittsburgh, Calvary Church, together with its rector and senior warden, brought suit against Bishops Robert Duncan and Henry Scriven, and other officials of the Diocese. St. Stephen's Church, Wilkinsburg, and Mr. Herman S. Harvey, a parishioner of St. Stephen's Church, Sewickley, later joined Calvary in the action as plaintiffs.
